Future Problem Solvers
The Future Problem Solvers (FPS) club of Elkhart Central High School hosted the charity event St. Baldrick's this charity raises funds and awareness for childhood cancer research. We also tied in Locks of Love, which takes donations of hair to make wigs for young girls that have lost their hair. FPS is a club that looks into potential problems in our future and looks not only at the solutions but the manner in which you identify, research and present ways to create and enact solutions. Wells Scholar Program
Congratulations to both Halle Hill and Andy Braden for being selected as part of the Wells Scholar Program at Indiana University at Bloomington. The Wells Scholarship is named in honor of Herman B Wells (1902-2000), who devoted his extraordinary life to Indiana University. Dr. Wells came to IU as an undergraduate, returned as a faculty member, then served as a dean before rising to become president of the university. Based solely on merit, the Wells Scholarship provides full tuition, mandatory and course-related fees, and a living stipend for four years of undergraduate study on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University. Scholars may choose to spend one of these years studying abroad through the university's overseas study programs. The Wells Scholars Program emphasizes close interaction with faculty; academic and career mentoring; opportunities for internships, research, and community service; a year-long freshman seminar; and frequent contact with distinguished visitors. Between 18 and 22 incoming freshmen receive the award each year.

Elkhart County Student-Athlete of the Year
Elkhart Central's Megan Ellis was named as the female Student Athlete of the Year by the Kiwanis Club of Elkhart County Tuesday, June 1st, in Elkhart.
NewsCenter 16's Angelo Di Carlo served as the guest speaker for the luncheon, which recognized eight exceptional student athletes from surrounding area high schools. Megan was selected to receive a scholarship thanks to her excellent work on the field as well as in the classroom and in the community... Read more on the WNDU website.

Orchestra Wins at State Finals
May 2011 ~ Congratulations to the Central HS Symphony Orchestra on their amazing performance at the ISSMA State Orchestra Championship! The group clearly gave their best performance of the year and placed fifth out of eight groups. Central was the top scoring group of all Northern Indiana Orchestras. Great job, Blue Blazers!
April 2011 ~ Congratulations to the Central High School Symphony Orchestra on their truly outstanding performance at the ISSMA State Qualification Contest at Merrillville HS. The group earned a Gold Rating With Distinction for the fifth time in the last six years. This will be the orchestra's tenth trip to the State Finals.
ECHS Music Groups Excel
The Elkhart Central High School Orchestras and Choirs have again received the Indiana State School Music Association's All-Music Award by meeting specific criteria throughout the school year. These ECHS groups have received the award all nine years the award has been given. Over 150,000 students from all 50 states and 13 foreign countries participated in the National Latin Exam in March 2010. In the National Latin Exam the students have to answer 40 questions in 40 minutes. These questions differ by levels of Latin and are on grammar, Roman culture and civilization, and the content of a Latin text.

Students Create Balloon Art
Students at Elkhart Central blew up hundreds of balloons for a 3-D art installation in their library Wednesday and Thursday.

What would it be like to be handcuffed to another person for 11 days? Elkhart Central graduate Chloe Anagnos is finding out. She is not handcuffed to anyone, but this past week is following two young men who are. A telecommunications student at Ball State University, she is producing Me and My Shadow: The Documentary.

Local Music Students Selected for the
2011 Indiana All-State Orchestra
Josh Bamber, a member of the Elkhart Central High School Symphony Orchestra; and Layne Anspach, a member of the Elkhart Central High School Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra. They were chosen for the honor by competitive auditions held this year across the state. The All-State orchestra is sponsored by the Indiana American String Teachers Association.
This is their second time to perform as members of the INASTA All-State group.
Commencement
Over 6,000 people attends the commencement of Elkhart Central High School which is held in June at Central's Rice Field.
